10 Things you may not know about me

Hey there! If you are new to my community, I just wanna say….WELCOME!

To break the ice and help you get to know me a little better…here goes. 10 things you may not know about me. I encourage you to comment below and share something you think is interesting or unique to you. (And don’t say nothing….you are way cooler than you think!)

1. Not only do I knit (which you likely already know about me if you follow me on Instagram), but I also spin my own yarn from raw fleece. I mostly spin alpaca now, but for awhile I was spinning with sheep fleece also. And when I say now, it’s definitely been awhile since I have spun anything. Prioritizing time is essential…but I am prepared for retirement with all my hobbies lined up, when it’s time.

2. I am obsessed with Crocs for every outfit. Although I think I am still down a couple pairs from a puppy incident and a dryer incident (not the same incident, LOL) I am pretty sure I still have about 8 different pairs. I have a close friend that doesn’t share my enthusiasm for Crocs.

NYC trip a few years ago, lol

3. Although I live in Ontario (South Frontenac Township), I am proudly from Nova Scotia. Being an East Coaster is not only a geographic location, it’s a lifestyle and a way of life. I play cribbage (not well however based on a recent sad display of card playing, lol). I know how to tell you the difference between a male and female lobster and could eat my weight in mussels. Hard pass on Oysters.

4. I learned how to ski and snowboard in the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains. I lived in Banff and Canmore for a combined 5 years and sometimes if I am in a the right state of mind, I can still work an entire shift as a bartender at the Banff Springs Hotel in my dreams. It’s the strangest feeling waking up after reliving a magical time in my younger years. I hope that never goes away.

5. I feel like I am driving a sports car every time I shift gears in my standard transmission car. She is by no means a sports car, but it sure feels like it. LOL. I can also, with medium confidence, sail a sailboat. The sailing course was an extremely high stress week long vacation adventure a few years ago. There will be no solo sailing adventures for me in my future…still kinda freaks me out relying on the wind to power a vessel. Like learning how to see light in photography, sailing is all about learning to read the wind. I guess it’s kinda obvious that I love to learn new things and at least try stuff that looks fun. If I don’t continue with it, that’s cool. Sometimes it’s enough to say I can, I did and I don’t anymore.

6. I love golfing. I’m certainly not joining any Ladies’ Tours, but I can hold my own and I love to play. I learned how to play when I lived out west, and that’s the only sport I continue to enjoy here. I was playing on hand me down mismatched clubs gifted to me from a plumber that used to do contract work at an Irish Pub I worked at. Finally, after I got some of my finances sorted out, I treated myself to a new set of matching clubs and I can’t explain how rewarding that felt. I earned those clubs. Not just by being committed to learning the game, but for saving and paying cash.

7. I used to bite my nails. My entire childhood I had a brutally bad nail biting habit. Then about 10 years ago (give or take), a good friend of mine lost 90 pounds from eating properly and exercising. If he could lose that much weight and make that significant of a lifestyle change to transform his life, I could stop biting my nails. And that was it. Back in my earlier days of my financial independence journey, I would treat myself to manicure milestones. Again…always paying cash. I am a big advocate of creating milestone rewards. Life doesn’t have an end goal. Just a series of milestones to celebrate and appreciate.

8. I hate having wet hands. LOL. Weird I know. There isn’t a chance in hell I would wash dishes without rubber gloves. Even sitting in a hot tub, you will likely see me sitting there with my hands out of the water. Wrinkly finger skin grosses me out.

9. Candy is my weakness. In no particular order: Gobstoppers, Sweet Tarts, Nerds, Sour Keys. Don’t judge.

10. You likely know this too, but I believe dogs make the world a better place. Before I got my first dog, Max, the thought of dog hair everywhere made me twitchy. Then I fell in love with his sweet face and the way he cuddled me on the couch and I was forever changed. Now, currently sitting on the couch with two dogs beside me and one at my feet, I just sweep everyday and trade dog hair frustration for cuddles and breathing blankets.
