I, like you, probably spend a little too much time looking at perfectly curated Instagram Feeds and feel happy, content and possibly a little envious of such a great feed.
I have a few Instagram feeds, because I didn’t want to clutter my Photography Feed with real life clutter. I can perfectly well admit my Branding Game is not as on point as I would like to to be. My colours don’t all compliment each other, the composition and story in each image don’t always speak for itself…and that’s ok.
A LOT goes into a perfectly curated feed and I’m not sure I want to substitute images that I love because they don’t all have a matching colour scheme or theme.
That said…I do love scrolling through Instagram and knowing whose feed I am looking at without even seeing the profile name. If it’s not who I thought it was, I can pick out who has been mentored and educated by mentors of mine. That’s excellent branding. That’s a Photography Goal I have.
I continue to do the personal work on what inspires me, what makes me happy to photograph, what phrases or quotes speak to me. There is real work to be done to find your personal brand.
Have you done the work on your own Personal Brand?
Back to Instagram feeds…lets talk Flat Lay’s.
These are images that are exactly as they sound. Images taken from a birds eye view, laying flat on a background.
I’ve been playing around with this style of Photography. It started with being asked to photograph some of my favourite models for a Magazine submission and that session inspired me to get a bit more creative.
To take these photos I needed to make a DIY lightbox for the light to wrap around and make the models shine and sparkle.
After this session I jumped down the rabbit hole of Pinterest and searched and read so many blog posts on perfecting the Flat Lay. I was inspired. Here are a few of my first attempts using things I could quickly see around me. I already have ideas for my next Flat Lay Session. This is going to be. fun as creativity is an endless passion and I’m excited to play around.
What do you think for my first real attempt at creating cool Flat Lays?
Time to keep an eye out for small unique items to use in my Flat Lay images. Comment below if you have any ideas for small trinkets, textures, colours and unique elements that can be used for multiple scenes.
I already have a list of things to keep an eye out for in my phone. There is definitely a rusty, country theme in my note so far. Would love to know what you are thinking.
