#teira365 Week 7

May 13-19

Spring is in the air and this week was spent outside.  Lots of animal shots this week to practice with shutter speed and depth of field as well as using a high ISO.

I’m much happier with my Alpaca images this year vs last year.  Both of these were taken in the barn before shearing.  It’s pretty dark and my ISO was high.  I think it was around 3200 – 5000.  My shutter speed was almost too low, around 1/100 and my aperture was also low to let as much light in as possible.  Lesson learned…make sure my aperture is set so I have a better focus when there are a few subjects that I want to be crisp.  The image with the two white alpacas has a little blur in the eyes in the Alpaca behind and that’s too bad.  I shouldn’t have been afraid to stop my aperture down and up my ISO a bit more.  My camera can handle a high ISO without too much grain.  And too much grain is better than a fuzzy image.

Three favorites this week.  The wrinkles in the puppy arm simply make me happy. They represent everything cuddly about a new puppy.  I also love the picture of Katie (Momma Dog), nose to nose with her pup.  She is the BEST Momma dog around and this image just shows her affection and attentiveness to her pup.  Puppy Love at it’s finest.

Lastly, I love the pic of the Oriole Feeder.  I took several pictures from my height looking at the feeder hanging from the Apple Tree, and that’s exactly what they looked like.  A feeder hanging from a tree.  They were OK.  But just OK.  It was a perspective that wasn’t unique or particularly thoughtful.  Just ok.  Then I grabbed Lucille (my step ladder) and changed my vantage point.  Whammo!  That’s what I was going for.  Intentionally a different perspective and a little foreground of the Apple Blossoms.

I feel like I am making progress!
