I had a conversation with a woman a few weeks ago.
We were talking about how much I love Photography and how I really want to grow my skills as a photographer and my know-how as a Small Business owner.
In order to grow in the both respects, it’s critical for me to know how to inspire people to book sessions with me.
I didn’t realize there are SO many objections out there for why people don’t want to be in front of a camera.
I’m too old. I’m too heavy. I have too many wrinkles. No one will want to see me, much less have printed pictures of me.
Wow! My immediate reaction was … You need a hug. (That’s my immediate reaction for just about everything, lol) But they didn’t need a hug, they needed validation that all their insecurities don’t even cross other people’s minds.
You’re too old? Seriously. If only all families were lucky enough to see their parents or loved one age with laugh lines. Not everyone is so lucky.
I’m too heavy. We aren’t all thin, fit and in the best shape of our life. The number on the scale does not define your worth. Your friends and family love you. As you are. They laugh with you, they share a drink with you, they enjoy a delicious meal with you. They don’t care about your weight. They only care about being able to enjoy your company and have images to remember your smile by.
Time to get real…I have a printed photograph of my Nanna on my 2019 Vision Board. She inspires me everyday. For as long as I can remember she has always had her nails done, always has her hair done, rocks her pink lipstick like a boss. She is a boss! The boss of her own life. She’s 94, lives alone and is unstoppable. When I saw her last year, she said she didn’t want her pictures taken because she thought she looks old.
Really Nanna…you are old! 94 years old in fact You are old, gorgeous, inspiring, adorable and strong. She has earned every single laugh line on her awesome face.
Not having me take her picture was certainly not an option. I want as many pictures of her as I can possible have.
My mom was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and fingers crossed she will beat it, but it was a crazy reminder that every day matters. Enjoying every minute matters and having photographs of the good times is critical to remembering people you love. We are all getting older and it’s less about stuff we have and more about the people in our lives that make us happy.
I can tell you for weeks following the news that my Mom was preparing to kick Cancers Ass, I slowed down in my hallway to look at the photos that we have framed of our Family and Friends. They are what matter.
That’s why my Journey to being a Photographer is more than just enjoying taking pictures. I want to capture your memories. I want you to have printed/framed/mounted images on your wall so you can walk by them and remember the good times and loved ones in your life.
Why and when you book a photo session will be different for everyone.
What I hope is that you make the call or send the text to talk to me, about capturing the memories you would like to remember forever.
The reason and timing for a Family Session will be different from you booking a shoot for just yourself.
I’ll address why a Personal Photo Shoot can do wonders for your Journey for Self-Love in a future blog post. You can’t fool me …we are all on that Journey.
Some of you might be fast tracking that Journey, and others might be stumbling over every little pebble.
I’m here to capture your memories when you are ready, but don’t put off until tomorrow that which you can/should do today.
Xo
