I admit I had a day or two where the current situation got the better of me and I was blue and unmotivated and just wanted to sleep. (That’s my go-to coping mechanism).
But…after a couple days of not feeling like myself, I got dressed, did my hair and makeup and purposefully changed my mindset. A year ago, I took the break in “normal days”, to dive deep into education, both personal and professional…and that really helped me. So that will be part of my Resilience plan to get through this time too.
“Resilience: the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness”. Oxford Dictionary
One of the courses I took last year was Kara Marie’s A Guide to Self Portraits for Photographers. I just checked and it’s on sale now if you want to check it out. She is a Photographer for the Modern Day Woman, based out of Austin, TX (although just relocated with her family to Italy). She is an excellent educator and has a very easy going approach to life and photography.
I know I have said it a LOT over the last year, but self portraits are not easy. Camera settings and getting focus are a common challenge, but pretty quick to catch on, after a few failed attempts with blurry images and cut off appendages. Expression….that’s the hard part.
This past week I wanted to work on getting some images with the warm glow of sunset. It’s still Springtime and the leaves are just starting to bud and everything is still dull and dirty, but I made it work. (I think).
I’m thinking after this Lockdown I might do an in-person Self Portrait workshop…what do you think?
All you will need is a dSLR and a Tripod. Might be fun and a great way to learn how to take amazing photos of yourself using your own equipment. If you are interested, let me know and I will start brainstorming the framework to host.
